Swalcliffe is one of the finest Medieval Great Barns in England. Built for New College, Oxford in 1401-7, it served the College and tenants until 1959. Acquired by the Oxford Historic Buildings Trust in 1988, it now houses a museum of historic agricultural vehicles and the history of the Barn. There will be concurrent guided tours of the Barn and the church of St Peter and St Paul which has Saxon origins.
Broughton Castle, built in the 13th Century and early 14th Century by John Broughton, was acquired by William Wykeham in 1377 and passed to the Fiennes family in 1456. It is now the home of Lord Saye of Sele.
We will take guided tours of the Castle followed by tea and cake in the café.
