Visit to the Hospital of St Cross and Winchester Cathedral

The Hospital of St Cross was founded between 1132 and 1136, creating what is said to be England’s oldest charitable institution.  It was established to support thirteen poor men, who became the Brothers of St Cross.  They are not monks: St Cross is a secular foundation, not a monastery.  Winchester Cathedral was built from 1079 and is the longest mediaeval cathedral in the world.  It has a nave in the Perpendicular Gothic style, an Early English retrochoir, and Norman transepts and tower.  We will take a guided tour of each site
